Caleb University, CIPM mull industry collaboration

A delegation from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) on May 7, 2026, paid courtesy visit to the Caleb University, Lagos. The visit was facilitated by the University’s Centre for Global Engagement, Non-Government & Industry Partnerships (CGLOENGIP) to strengthen industry-academia collaboration between the institution and CIPM. The University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Sunday Adewale, his Research, Innovation, Strategy and Administration (RISA) counterpart; Prof. Adesola Ajayi, the Registrar, Mr. Mayokun Olumeru, the Bursar, Mr. Adesina Abubakre and senior members of CIPM attended the meeting. Discussions at the meeting centered on several areas of mutual collaboration, including corporate membership partnership with CIPM, professional certification opportunities for students, internship and employability support schemes, curriculum enhancement and industry integration, career coaching and mentorship initiatives, as well as joint research and conference participation. In his address during the engagement, Prof. Asikhia stated that Caleb University remains intentional about building partnerships capable of creating measurable institutional impact and practical opportunities for staff and students. He noted that collaborations must transcend ceremonial Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and translate into tangible outcomes in research, innovation, employability, and professional development. On her part, the Director of CGLOENGIP, Dr. Sophia Abiri-Franklin, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the strategic objectives of the proposed collaboration, with emphasis on curriculum harmonisation, institutional collaboration, and the deliberate grooming of Caleb University students to become industry-ready upon graduation. Abiri-Franklin's presentation highlighted the importance of aligning academic learning with practical industry expectations and global professional standards. “Our vision is to ensure that Caleb University students are not only academically sound but also professionally equipped, globally competitive, and adequately prepared to thrive in today’s dynamic workplace environment through strategic partnerships and industry integration,” she stated. The CIPM delegation expressed readiness to work closely with Caleb University in bridging the gap between academia and industry through practical, industry-driven and professionally relevant initiatives designed to prepare students for the evolving global workplace. The delegation commended the University’s leadership for its forward-thinking approach to institutional partnerships, innovation, and manpower development, while both parties explored frameworks for sustainable collaboration that would benefit students, faculty members, and the wider society.
